St John’s Notes
13th March 2007

Never mind the Cheltenham Festival – the
BIG RACE DAY will be on Sunday week (25th
March) at Downpatrick Racecourse.
Contact Sean McKay (07808 099 588) or
Caroline McKay (07841 100 253) if you
want to sponsor a race, take a table or
even just go along yourself to support
St John’s at the Race Day. Contact
Jennifer Savage (4377 1411) if you need
any more raffle tickets for the big draw
on the day. All monies and any unsold
tickets should be returned before the
next committee meeting.
The next Management Committee meeting is
on Monday 19th at
9.00pm.
One of the agenda items will be the
development of a “Smoke-Free” policy. As
you know there will be a legislative ban
on smoking in enclosed places from 30th
April. The committee will be considering
adopting a policy to extend this to the
playing field during games and training.
If you have any views on this matter
please make them known to any committee
member or secretary Kevin McGlynn (078
3596 0804) before next Monday.
The
“Football Development Working Group”
held its first meeting yesterday
(Tuesday). This groups was set up by the
management committee to consider how we
go forward over the next 3 to 5 years in
order to advance the standing of adult
football at St John’s. The group is
chaired by PJ McGrady and the other
members are Kevin McGlynn (secretary),
Conor Burns (players representative),
Donard King, Henry Morgan, Gerard
McAnulty, Brendan McCann, Sean Quinn and
Kevin Savage. One of their topics will
be how best to take the views of the
rest of the membership into their
considerations as part of their remit is
that they “shall encourage and welcome
the views of the entire membership”. So
you can all put your thinking caps on.
Lottery numbers were 7, 17, 25 and 26.
There were 2 £10 winners and the jackpot
is now £2,050.
Would whoever borrowed some of the
stools from the club please return them.
Do you remember Tom Cruise in the film
Cocktail? Well, forget it. We’re looking
for people to help out on an occasional
basis at various functions in the
clubrooms. Full training will be given.

Congratulations to Martin and Mary
Flanagan on the birth of their latest
wee boy – mind you at 9 pound 2 he’s not
that “wee”. Registration forms are in
the post.
We extend our sympathies to the family
and friends of Gerry Mackin. May he Rest
in Peace.
And just in case anyone forgot – Happy
Mother’s Day from everyone in the club.
