St John’s Notes 7th March 2007

The dates are now on the horizon for the opening fixtures in the various leagues. Paul Kelly and Gerard McCartan will have their eyes on Friday 13th April for their opening fixture (away to Aghaderg) while Patsy and Malachy Savage will be preparing for the first outing of the reserves on the Sunday 15th.  The minors, under the tutelage of Donard King, Gerard McAnulty and Anthony Flanagan will be competing in the All County league. The East Down league on Wednesday 18th, but there is no date fixed yet for the All County league. Both the under-16 and under-14s teams will be competing in the East Down “A” league which start on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th respectively, so Bernard Rice, Mickey Burns, Martin Flanagan and Kevin McGlynn will be focussed  on these dates. Gerard Magorrian and Gerard McAnulty (and their various helpers) will be aware of the start dates for the Go Games for the under-12s on Sunday 15th. All the managers will be co-operating across the age levels so that the club as a whole is best served. The ladies football league starts on Saturday 14th April.

Looking to the longer term, the management committee has just set up a “Football Development Working Group” to consider how to go forward over the next 3/5 years in order to advance the standing of adult football at St John’s. You’ll hear more about this when the membership of the group has been confirmed. Part of the remit of this group is that they “shall encourage and welcome the views of the entire membership” – so you can all put your thinking caps on.

There were no winners in last weeks’s lottery when the numbers were 9, 23, 26 and 27. The jackpot is now £2,000.

There is a Poker Night this Friday (9th).

You should start studying the form guides from now on as our Race Day at Downpatrick Racecourse is only a couple of weeks away on Sunday 25th March.

Easter Monday will be Ladies Day at St John’s … more details next week.
