St John’s Notes 17th May 2007

St John’s Notes         16th May 2007

The seniors are back in action this Friday when we entertain Aghaderg. St John’s will be buoyed by their recent success at the Junior Feis Sevens where they overcame league pacesetter Drumaness and Teconnaught in Ballykinlar. Winning is a good habit and the team should be buoyed both by the wins ahead of the second series of league games. They should know that they have the beating of anyone in Division Four now. They will be back in Ballykinlar on Monday (21st) for a league game.

Our camogie fixture away to Kilcoo was postponed from last Wednesday to this evening (Wednesday). This will be just our second fixture having overcome St Peters, Warrenpoint in the opening game. For those who can’t travel to Kilcoo there will be camogie action at Pairc Naomh Eoin this evening anyhow as Down minors take on their Cavan counterparts. Our camogs will also be in action on Sunday (20th) when they take part in the Feis Sevens in Downpatrick. Camogie training is at 6.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays (when there is no match)

Our ladies were disappointed not to make it three wins out of three when they were held to a draw at home to St Michael’s last Monday (1-6 v 1-6). They had sufficient control and chances to take maximum points but weren’t able to put these on the scoreboard. They travelled to Ardglass on Saturday and lost their unbeaten record as well (5-09 v 2-06). The ladies don’t get a chance to make immediate amends for this as they have a bye this weekend before entertaining Rostrevor on Saturday 26th.

Our minors didn’t have a fixture last week but are back in action tonight with a trip to Carryduff in the opening round of the championship.

Our under-16s have already been in championship action when they overcame Bright in the preliminary round last Tuesday. The same team provided the opposition last night in a league game and we are at home again next Tuesday when we entertain St Joseph’s.

The under-14s had a bye last week in the East Down A league. They don’t play this week either as they await the winners of the game between Ardglass and Bright. Next up is Bryansford in the league.

On Saturday the under-10s will travel to Dromara for their second blitz.

There were three £10 winners on 3rd May when the numbers were 6, 9, 22 and 24. Last Thursday’s numbers were 4, 8, 11 and 12. There was one £10 winner and the jackpot now stands at £1,300.

No doubt Buffer 1 will be busy as we come into the silage season.
