St John’s were delighted to be HIGHLY
COMMENDED in the highly contested IRISH
NEWS Ulster Club & School Awards for
their DEVELOPMENT OF UNDERAGE PLAYERS.
The aim of the Awards initiative is to
recognize and reward GAA Clubs and
Schools throughout Ulster for their
commitment to the game. The winning
Ulster club in each category (City,
Town, Rural and Underage Development)
were awarded a £1,500 IRISH NEWS
development cheque, a £1,000 voucher
from O’Neills Sports Wear and an IRISH
NEWS Platinum website development
package. The highly commended Clubs each
received a £750 IRISH NEWS Development
cheque.
Irish News editor Noel Doran stated,
‘the scheme has grown from strength to
strength and it is great to celebrate
our 5th year of the
initiative with the successful clubs and
schools today.
The
awards deliver due credit for the hard
work put in by everyone involved in
gaelic games throughout the province.
The aim of the awards is to recognise
the tremendous contributions to the
growth of Gaelic games by clubs and
schools.
“The great success of this scheme is
based on the fact that it recognises the
extraordinary contribution which our
clubs and schools make to the growth of
gaelic games at all levels.
This year again we were simply over-whelmed by the
huge response to our Awards and
delighted that we can help support
grassroots GAA across
Ulster,”
added Noel.
Ulster Council Chairman Tom Daly
presented the prestigious award to
St John’s secretary Kevin McGlynn. He
said that “he was delighted to have
received this notable prize, and
recognition at a provincial level, on
behalf of the club. It is a credit to
the many people who have contributed to
our work at underage level over the last
number of years and due recognition of
their efforts.”

He added “and the juvenile
players must take some credit for this
too. If they didn’t keep turning up,
week after week, and giving their best
there would be no award today or future
for the club.”
