ST JOHNS - “SMOKE-FREE” POLICY
|
St John’s
GAC is committed to providing a healthy
place of recreation for our members and
visitors to our club. St John’s GAC
recognises that breathing second-hand
smoke is a health hazard and has agreed
to adopt this smoke-free policy in order
to protect the health of our members and
visitors. Adoption of this policy will
also ensure that St John’s GAC comply
with the Smoking (Northern Ireland)
Order 2006.
This aim
of this policy is to protect the health
of our members from exposure to
second-hand smoke. In order to implement
this policy and create an environment
free from the hazard of second-hand
smoke we shall:-
1.
Prohibit smoking throughout the entire
clubrooms with no exceptions.
2.
Prohibit smoking in any vehicle provided
by the club to transport members.
3.
Prohibit smoking on the playing field
during all matches, training sessions,
and similar activities.
4.
Display “No Smoking” signs as required
by legislation.
5.
Inform, consult and train members and
volunteers on this policy.
6. Bring
this policy to the attention of visitors
to the club.
7.
Provide guidance on dealing with people
who attempt to smoke in contravention of
this policy.
8.
Investigate complaints regarding members
and visitors breaching this policy.
ENFORCEMENT OF THIS POLICY
Failure
to comply with this policy will be dealt
with by St. John’s executive committee
through our disciplinary procedures.
Members or visitors who breach the
policy will be asked to stop smoking and
will be asked to leave the premises if
they fail to comply with this request.
All breaches of this policy will be
recorded in writing by the executive
committee. We are aware that, in
addition to action taken under this
policy, the local council may take legal
action against individuals who smoke in
smoke-free places or vehicles.
Under the Smoking (Northern Ireland)
Order 2006 it is the responsibility of
the person in charge of the premises to
ensure nobody, including the public,
smoke in smoke-free premises. A person
in charge who permits people to smoke on
their premises may be liable to
prosecution. Also any individual who
smokes in a smoke-free premise may be
issued with a fixed penalty notice or
may be prosecuted.
Guidance to members
If someone attempts to breach this
policy or to break the law:-
Approach the person in a non
confrontational manner and:
1.
Draw their attention to the ‘No
Smoking’ signs.
2.
Advise them that smoking is
prohibited by law and by club policy and
politely ask them to stop smoking.
3.
Advise them of any place where
smoking is permitted, such as the car
park.
4.
Refuse service to anyone who
continues to smoke and ask them to
leave.
5.
If a customer refuses to leave,
follow usual procedures for dealing with
anti-social behaviour.
6.
If threatened, seek assistance of
the police. Do not put yourself in any
danger.
This
policy was adopted on 16th
April
2007
and shall come into effect on 30th
April 2007 and will be reviewed within
three years of this date.
