St John’s Notes 31st October 2007
St John’s celebrated their 30th anniversary
in style on Saturday night. The clubrooms
looked at their finest, reflecting their spruce
up earlier in the year, and the walls were
well decorated with reminders of the past
30 years. Gerry Burns sat on the very first
committee and hasn’t failed St John’s
in the thirty years since. He was deservedly
induced into our Hall of Fame. Unfortunately
he was not able to be present on the night
and the award was received on his behalf by
wide Anne and son Donal. We wish him a speedy
return to full health, and thank him again
for his enormous contribution.
Henry O’Hare was also in at the birth
of our club and he picked up the Clubperson
of the Year award, demonstrating his on-going
commitment to our cause. Declan Brennan was
Senior Player of the Year while the Senior
Sportsperson of the Year award went to Cathal
O’Connor. The Reserve Player of the
Year was Barry Russell and the Reserve Sportsman
of the Year was Ryan Gibney.
Grainne McCann picked up the Ladies Footballer
of the Year title while Leanne Goodman was
the Most Improved Lady Footballer.
Our Camogie Player of the Year, in our second
successive championship winning year, was
Shileen Savage, with the Most Improved award
going to Orlaith McMullan and the Sportsperson
of the Year going to Caroline Ward.
Everyone enjoyed a lovely meal, courtesy
of the Seeconnell Inn with dancing afterwards
to Divine Harmony into the wee small hours
– there were a few who were glad that
the clocks had gone back to allow them an
extra hour before morning.
The next big date on the club calendar is
the Annual General Meeting which will be held
on Sunday 25th November at 2.00pm.
We have recently received a commission cheque
for £131.74 from Gaelic Telecom. We
are very grateful to those of our members
and supporters who have switched over to Gaelic
Telecom. The club benefits at no real cost
to the supporter as Gaelic Telecom offer very
competitive rates and a percentage of the
bill comes back to the club. So everyone is
a winner. Any member or supporter who wishes
to help our club raise money and at the same
time save money on their phone calls can call
Gaelic Telecom on 0870 22 44 226. Why not
give them a call as we would really appreciate
it.
Fitness Nights are continuing on Thursdays
in Aughlisnafin Hall, from 7.00 to 8.00pm
at a cost of £2.50 per person.
Last week’s lottery numbers were 2,
12, 21 and 22 - there were two £10 winners
and the jackpot now stands at £2,500.
Our next Poker Night will be on Friday 9th
November and it will be “eyes down”
for our Bingo on Friday 16th – more
details next week.
