St John’s Under-10s
at Pat Doyle Tournament in Liatroim
|
On Saturday 26th of July St
John’s under 10s travelled to Liatroim
for the Pat Doyle tournament. Thanks to Liatroim
for the invite and for a great day of football.
Our first match was against Kilcoo A team, we
got of to a great start with some great play
from our midfield Aodhan Morgan and Chusla Savage.
Eoin Moag, at full back, was outstanding - nothing
got past him and he cleared his line with pinpoint
accuracy. We won this tough encounter St Johns
0-6 v Kilcoo 0-1.
Our next match was against Dromara this was
a hard match and always very tight but with
great forward line of Mark Murphy, Connor McAnulty
and Ciaran Magorrian , these the youngest of
the team know exactly where the posts are they
took all their scores from play, and were unlucky
when they went for goal as they hit the post.
We lost by the narrowest of margins, St Johns
0-4 v Dromara 0-5.
The third match was against a very strong Ballyholland
team they played the long ball in every time
which took out our mid field completely out
of the game, only for the tremendous saves of
our goalie Nicky McMullan kept us in the game.
This was our biggest defeat of the day St Johns
0-4 v Ballyholland 1-5. This put us in for the
shield rather than the cup.
Our semi final encounter was against Kilcoo
B team. We kept Kilcoo scoreless in this game
with some great football from Jarleth Kelly
Oisin McPoland and some great defensive work
from Connor Gordon. Our team dominated in all
parts of the field and some very good scores
from midfield and our forward line give us our
biggest win of the day. St Johns 3-6 v Kilcoo
0-0.
The final was against Saval this was a match
where we hit the crossbar and the post it just
was not going to be our day. St Johns played
well in this game with great defending from
Owen Moag and goalkeeping from Nicky McMullan
who saved a penalty. With hitting the woodwork
and a couple of wides Saval went on to win by
a goal and a point congratulations. St Johns
0-3 v Saval 2-1.
