St Paul's Minors Defeat St. John's
East Down Minor: St Paul's 3-06 St John's 0-12

St
Paul's ended their Minor League campaign
with a hard fought win at St John's.
A lively opening by St Paul's saw
them take an early four point league
with a goal from Ryan Tumility and
a point from Conor McElroy. However
this fine start was not maintained
and slack play allowed the home team
back into the game with six unanswered
points. Another point from Conor reduced
St John's lead to the minimum but
just before half time a home side
point left the score at the break
St John's 0-7 St Paul's 1-2.
A wake up team talk at half time saw
St Paul's raise their game and another
quick goal from Ryan and a point from
Conor saw them in front early in the
second half. Conor had two further
points before St John's opened their
second half score. The sides then
exchanged points with Conor hitting
his sixth point to leave the scores
St John's 0-9 St Paul's 2-6.
St John's had a further point before
a good run down the left by substitute
Kris McWilliams led to Ryan driving
home his third goal. In the closing
minutes St John's added two further
points but St Paul's held out for
a merited victory by a score of 3-6
to 0-12.
All 18 players used in the match played
their part in bringing our sixth victory
of the season, by far the best performance
by a minor side for many years. The
championship draw has given us a bye
in the preliminary round and we meet
the winners of Bredagh v Newry Shamrocks
at end of May. Details of training
will be advised.
