Another win for St Paul's U16's

St Paul's 7-7 Dromara 6-9

St Paul's continued their good form in the U-16 league with a spirited win at home against Dromara. Fielding without their captain Desi Fusco St Paul's made the worst possible start when Dromara scored a fine goal after only two minutes. The home side were finding it difficult to deal with the high ball into their area and soon found themselves behind by 1-3 to no score. Ryan then picked up the ball in midfield and finished a good run with the home teams first point.

Dromara then added a further three points to lead by 1-6 to 0-1. Gradually Tony and Chris began to win more ball in the middle of the field and Kev reduced the defecit with a fine point. Dromara replied quickly with another point but this was to be their last score of the half. St Paul's were now playing really well and three goals from Gibby, Ryan and Tony left the half time score St Paul's 3-2 Dromara 2-7.

A hard hitting half time team talk from Paddy Hunt had the home side well motivated as they started the second half and in no time they went in front for the first time in the game thanks to another Michael Gibson goal. Dromara then equalised but Gibby again put St Paul's in front with a fine point. Disaster then struck as a speculative lob found its way into the top corner of the net to put Dromara back into a two point lead. Ryan was forced to drop deep to get the ball and two fine catches and runs resulted in points to put the teams level once again.

Both sides exchanged goals with St Paul's coming from Kev, before a fine drive to the roof of the net from Ryan put St Paul's three points in front approaching the last ten minutes. A fine run from midfield and a good shot from Chris Williams for a point increased St Paul's lead to four but this was quickly reduced to the minimum as Dromara stormed forward and a fierce shot found the home net. Tony Tumility then added a further goal before a goal and point

for Dromara left the sides level. With only a couple of minutes remaining, and St Paul's reduced to 14 men, both sides battled for the winner. A high ball in from the midfield was well caught by Gibby and with a good run along the 14 metre line and a fine shot over the black spot St Paul's were home by the narrowest of margins. Final score St Paul's 7-7 Dromara 6-9.

Everyone gave 100% in a very gritty performance for a fully deserved their win. All the defence battled hard and Chris and Tony in spite of being up against taller opponents at midfield battled away to the end. Ryan and Gibby had superb performances in attack ably supported by Tony and Kev with good back up by all the other forwards used.
