Teconnaught
Senior Football

Teconnaught
manager GP Mulholland with team
captain Seamus Madine
What a finish
to this year’s senior football
season! The young Teconnaught side
qualified for the Final of the
Down Junior Football Championship.
In the lead up
to the Final, Annacloy and
Teconnaught were bedecked in red
and blue club colours, as the
local community showed its support
for the Team and its eager
anticipation for the Final.
The first match
did not disappoint. The sheer
footballing skills of the
Teconnaught players should have
been enough to secure victory but
opponents, Bredagh, made sure that
experience and guile counted with
a late injury time equalizer from
All Ireland medalist, Enda Gormley.
The reply at
Downpatrick was an altogether
different affair. The heavy
underfoot conditions eventually
took their toll on the lighter
Teconnaught lads. Bredagh ran out
deserving winners in the end and
have now gone on to represent Down
in the Ulster Club Junior
Championship.
As time has
passed, the initial dejection of
Cup Final defeat has been
overtaken by optimism for the
future. With the right attitude,
success is expected from these
players. Let’s hope its next year
during our 40th
birthday celebrations.
Thanks from the
club to all the families and
supporters from Annacloy, Kilmore,
Crossgar and further afield who
turned out to cheer on the team.
It was great to see new and
familiar faces getting involved in
the community.
