East Down U
21’s
Teconnaught and
Loughinisland have combined forces
to field a team in the U 21
competition. They have got off to
a very good start with a
comprehensive victory over a
Bright /Saul
combination.
Down
Development Squad
Good luck to
the U 14 girls who were nominated
to attend the trials for the Down
Development squad.
Teconnaught
U16’s 2006
The under 16’s
had a successful year with a good
squad of about 25 players.
The league went
well with some great wins and a
few close defeats. One of the
best matches of the year was the
local derby against Loughinisland.
A late burst at the end of the
game from Ben O’Reilly, who had
been well marked up until that
stage, ensured victory for our
neighbours. Nevertheless the
Teconnaught team had its own
outstanding performers in Cormac
Carville and Stephen Curran.
Michael Casement played well in
midfield while Daniel Morgan and
Sean Carville look promising
players for the future.
Following a
close encounter with St John’s,
the Teconnaught management team
was determined to leave their mark
in the “B” championship where they
faced Ardglass, Drumaness, and
eventually Saul in the Final. The
Drumaness match proved to be a
tough encounter. It was a close
affair with all the rivalry you
would expect from such a game.
Daniel Flanagan and Cormac
Carville gave good displays in
defence, Stephen Curran excelled
in midfield and Daniel Morgan’s
contribution in the forward line
saw us through to the Final in
Ballykinlar against Saul. With a
few key players injured, we
battled on to
win the East
Down U 16 B Championship.
As a result of
this victory we met Ballymartin in
the All County B championship. A
wonderful first half display from
all of the boys left us going in
at half time all square at 7
points each. After the break
Ballymartin upped the tempo with
key performances from their
midfield and full forward line.
In the end they were deserved
winners.
This season has
been a tremendous experience for
the squad. The players have now
set themselves a standard that
they will be expected to improve
upon as they progress to minor
level.
