Teconnaught GFC
Notes
- U12's played
Loughinisland on Sunday in
Loughinisland and they had a good
first half and went in at
half-time in the lead (0-8 to 0-6)
however, Loughinisland came out in
the second half and put in an
excellent performance which saw
them win. Best for Teconnaught
were Mark Owens, Daniel McGreevy
and Nathan Brennan in the back
line and Patrick Grant and Ben
Casement in the forward line.
Training continues on Wednesday
night from 7-8pm.
- U16's played
Kilclief at home on Tuesday night
in the first round of the U16 B
Championship. Another solid team
performance sees the team
ptogresing into the 2nd round of
the Chapionship. A great first
half performance by midfielders
Michael murphy and Liam Parkinson
and centre-half back Sean Rogan
pave dthe way for a great
performance from the forward line
with goals and points from Neil
McCartan (1-2), Daniel Morgan
(1-3), Darren McClements (1-1) and
points from Ciaran Carville (0-4)
and Michael Monan (0-3) left the
half-time score at 3-13 to 0-2.
The second half was the same
affair as the fist half with
scores coming from Liam Parkinson
(1-1) and Rory McDonnell (1-1).
Corner back Scott Murnin managed
to get up the field to slot over a
fine point and add his name to the
scoresheet. Kilclief were again
held to 2 points in the second
half with Sean Larkin in
right-half back outstanding.
- Seniors were
unfortunately beaten again on
Friday night by Bosco at home (0-8
to 2-6). Within a minute of the
start of the match Barry Rogan
missed a free and it was Bosco who
took the lead after 3 minutes from
a 50 after Ciaran McNamara had
fowled. Barry Rogan then opened
the Teconnaught scoreline on 9
minutes and Conor Heath quickly
followed up in the 13th minute.
Bosco added another 3 points
before Henry Green slotted over
for Teconnaught in the 24th
minute. Unfortunately Bosco added
a goal with 1 minute to go before
half-time after poor defending in
the Teconnaught half. Their 2nd
goal came within 5 minutes of the
second half and at this stage
manager GP Mulholland decided to
make use of his subs and
introduced Gary Fitzsimons, Tony
Roagn, Colm Flanagan, Ross
MacLeigh and Ronan Brannigan to
see their effectiveness on the
game. Barry Rogan then added
another 2 points however, Bosco
continued to increase their lead
by slotting over points. With
Ronan Brannigan in full forward
Teconnaught were trying to make
use of his height by firing in
high balls into the edge of the
square but it was too little too
late when Henry Green slotted over
a Teconnaught free in the 29th
minute of normal time and Darren
Ferguson added another.
Teconnaught scorers were as
follows; Barry Rogan 0-4), Conor
Heath (0-1), Henry Green (0-2) and
Darren Ferguson (0-1). Teconnaught
took too much out of the ball in
this match and they need to be
giving first time ball to the
forwards to punish the opposing
defence.
They will now
play Tullylish at home on Thursday
night @ 715pm and all support
would be appreciated. Light
refreshments will be served in the
Clubrooms after the match.
- We would ask
all parents to ensure that their
children do not enter the field of
play during Senior games as they
can be very easily injured along
the sideline and they are not
insured if anything happens to
them.
- Reserves
played Kilcoo in the opening round
of the Reserve Championship on
Monday night at home and
unfortunately they will not be
sharing the same fortune as the
U16's in progressing to the next
round. The young lads put in a
good performance but unfortunately
the strength and size of the
opposition could not be matched by
Teconnaught. Ronan Brannigan had
an outstanding game at midfield
and was backed up in goals by his
father, Eamon.
- Best wishes
go to Senior and Reserve player
Ronan Brannigan who sustained an
injury on Friday night playing for
the Seniors and now has a metal
cast on his leg.
- Hypnotist
Michael McCoy will be appearing in
the Clubrooms this Saturday night
(7th July). Doors open at 8pm and
admission is £10. Don't miss an
opportunity to see some members
making a fool out of themselves
while hypnotised!!!
- Tracksuits
and polo shirts are still on sale
and are available from Denis
McGrath. Please ensure that all
goods are paid for when purchasing
as the Club is not in a financial
position to be owed money.
- Grand Draw
sellers will be around the doors
shortly selling tickets and we ask
that everyone gives them their
support and that all members
purchase at least 1 ticket. The
proceeds from this draw will be
used to set the plans in place to
erect a sports hall with gym
facilities, squash courts etc and
it will be for the benefit of
everyone in the community. If
anyone would like to give a hand
in selling the tickets please
contact any committee member who
will be happy to accept your
assistance.
- Lotto numbers
for 01/07/07 - 2, 7, 16 & 21.
Noone matched 3 numbers and £50
consolation prize went to Gordon
Harkenson.
