Tullylish produce gutsy
performance against Ballymartin

ACFL Div 2: Ballymartin 1-8 Tullylish 3-11

Tullylish produced a gutsy performance to help get their season back on track in Ballymartin on Friday night last. Helped by 2 Chris McGovern peneltys midway through each half and a brilliant John McAreavey goal they fought back from an awful start to win convincingly.

Ballymartin started the quicker registering an early point. Tullylish were slow to get up to pace and although they equalised through a John McAreavey free Ballymartin soon regained the lead with the first goal of the game. Splitting open the Tullylish defence with a slick-passing move, which ended with the ball being palmed into an empty net. Ballymartin then scored 3 consecutive points to lead by 6 after 20 minutes. Tullylish were struggling but started to fight back missing several very score able chances before clicking with an excellent John McAreavey goal.

This lifted Tullylish and they were starting to win ball around midfield they registered a John McAreavey point and this was quickly followed by a long-range effort from Barney Roberts. Tullylish were happy to be in touch and continued to press and on the stroke of half time were awarded a penalty when Peter Quinn was brought down after a long run from midfield the kick was slotted home by Chris Mc Govern to leave the half time score Ballymartin 1-6 Tullylish 2-3

The second half was a story of Tullylish dominance although initially slow to register scores they soon started scoring freely a john McAreavey free opened proceedings Tullylish were winning almost all possession around the middle and added further scores from Gary Chambers and John Mc Areavey. Tullylish effetely finished the game 15 minutes into the half after Gary chambers was brought down Chris McGovern scored his second penalty of the game. Tullylish were in control and 2 sideline frees from Peter Quinn cemented their position. Ballymartin did try to mount a comeback but could only manage 2 points for their efforts while Tullylish scored 2 more John McAreavey points and a final point from Mickey Feeney to cap an excellent performance.

Tullylish must now carry on at home to Ballyholland next week in order to climb what is a tightly packed league table.
