Tullylish
Cruise to Second Consecutive Win
ACFL Div 2: Tullylish
0-16 Downpatrick 0-9
A rejuvenated Tullylish cruised
to their second consecutive win
against a disappointing Downpatrick
side at Parc Na Og on Friday night
last. After loosing their first
7 games Tullylish are now off the
bottom of the table and are set
up to push for safety during the
remainder of the season.
Tullylish started the game well
but it took them some time to settle
down against a lively and fast Downpatrick
forward line. For the first 10 minutes
of the game both teams exchanged
points with Tullylishes scores coming
from Gary chambers, John McAreavey
and Fintan ODowd. Tullylish did
look dangerous in attack but they
required an early defensive reorganisation
to cope with the pace in the Downpatrick
forward line. As Tullylish were
sorting themselves out Downpatrick
Took over for 10 minutes winning
nearly all the ball around midfield
and playing the ball into the full
forward line where they scored a
succession of points. Tullylishes
only response was a Gary Chambers
point to leave the home side trailing
8-4 after 20 minutes. After this
Tullylish took over for the rest
of the game not panicking when under
pressure before half time they had
2 more points from Barry Priestly
and Mark Fitzpatrick to leave the
half time score Tullylish 0-6 Downpatrick
0-8
If the first half was a close game
the second was one-way traffic with
Downpatrick having to wait until
injury time to register their only
score of the half. Throughout the
half Tullylish knocked over point
after point running the ball to
good effect. They were soon level
through Mick McCartan and Gary Chambers
points before edging into the lead
with points from Chris McGovern
and an excellent effort from Fintan
ODowd after a sweeping move down
the field. Tullylish were starting
to take control at this stage and
were left in an even stronger position
when Downpatrick were reduced to
14 men. Tullylish kept adding scores
the latest coming from the boot
of Gary Chambers, Peter Quinn and
John McAreavey.
The home team had the game in the
bag at this stage but completed
their scoring with 2 more Gary chambers
points and another Fintan ODowd
effort before Downpatrick were reduced
to 13 men after an off the ball
incident.
Tullylish look a different team
than that which was being easily
beaten just a few weeks ago and
now must continue their improvement
with several tricky ties ahead in
the next few weeks.
