Tullylish produce when required
ACFL Div 2: Drumgath
1-08 Tullylish 4-12
Tullylish produced
one of their best performances of
the year when they needed it most
against Drumgath on Friday night
last to reignite their division
2 survival hopes.
This was a comprehensive victory
indeed apart from the first 10 minutes
Tullylish were in control throughout.
Indeed the visitors winning margin
could have been much greater but
were let down by poor finishing
in the first half especially. The
game started slowly with both teams
taking time to settle. Tullylish
son raced into a 2-point lead with
scores from Michael McCartan and
John McAreavey but Drumgath soon
levelled and indeed took the lead
for the only time in the game after
10 minutes. Tullylish soon levelled
through a Ronan Barry point and
soon assumed control of the game.
This superiority
did not show on the scoreboard straight
away with several scoring chances
going abegging from a nervous looking
forward line. 15 minutes in and
Tullylish got the boost they needed
when a speculative shot from Michael
McCartan sneaked into the top corner
of the net. Tullylish were dominating
the game at this stage having assumed
control at midfield and snubbing
out the Drumgath attack with some
good defending. Tullylish extended
their lead with another 2 scores
from John McAreavey and ended the
half with a bang with a well taken
goal from Colin Thompson to leave
the half time score Drumgath 0-4
Tullylish 2-5
Tullylish took the field for the
second half knowing that they needed
to put their opponents out of sight
early in the half and the game was
effectively over in the first minute
of the half when Chris McGovern
drilled a shot into the top corner
of the net. This ended the Drumgath
challenge but Tullylish kept pressing
and adding scores through Chris
McGovern, 2 from John McAreavey
and a Peter Quinn effort. Drumgath
did manage scores of their own but
never enough to challenge the visitor’s
supremacy.
Chris McGovern
added a 4th Tullylish goal when
he scrambled the ball over the line
after it was dropped by the Drumgath
Keeper. Drumgath hit back with a
consolation goal of their own but
it was too late Tullylish continued
to add points with scores coming
from Barney Roberts and substitutes
Fintan ODowd and Eammon Morgan.
This is a great boost for Tullylish
with the championship semi final
next week but they cannot afford
to miss chances as they did here.
