Tullylish travelled
to the Mournes on Friday night last
knowing that a win would put them
in a position to escape the dreaded
relegation playoffs but in the end
after spurning a long succession
of chances it was the home side
who came away with the points that
saw them climb above Tullylish in
the table.
The Tullylish players
will know this is a game that got
away they enjoyed the vast majority
in the first half especially but
their instance on going for goals
and a long succession of wides meant
that they only lead by 1 point at
the interval. Tullylish dominated
the midfield sector winning a lot
of clean possession and the long
ball into the full forward line
was always dangerous. Glasdrumman
opened the scoring after 5 minutes
of the game but Tullylish soon responded
with their opening score from Michael
McCartan and quickly followed this
up with 2 frees from Peter Quinn
to assume control of the game. At
this stage Tullylish were dominant
but could not capitalise whereas
when Glasdrumman attacked a score
usually resulted. Tullylish did
continue to dominate and more scores
were added through Gary Chambers
and Davey Corbett but many more
chances went a begging and Glasdrumman
added 2 points on the stroke of
half time to leave the half time
defecate at just 1 point Glasdrumman
0-4 Tullylish 0-5
Glasdrumman came
out a different team in the second
half ands although the game was
a much closer contest in the second
period Tullylish continued to spurn
chances. Glasdrumman opened the
scoring but Tullylish edged back
into the lead through a 45 from
Barry Priestly and a Chris McGovern
point. Tullylish still looked the
better team at this point but once
again failed to take advantage by
poor shooting and decision-making.
Glasdrumman once again battled back
to level the game but with 10 minutes
to go but then Tullylish got what
looked like the decisive score when
a high ball into the square was
fisted to the net by Barny Roberts.
This should have propelled Tullylish
to victory but Glasdrumman got a
score back straight away and slowly
started to take control of the game.
Although Tullylish had several chances
in the final 10 minutes Glasdrumman
took the lead with just 3 minutes
of the game left when they were
awarded a penalty the ball was firmly
struck to the net and try as they
could Tullylish could not get into
the lead again as the game drew
to a close.
Tullylish are now
staring relegation in the face and
they will know that they only have
themselves to blame after this game.
