Newry Shamrocks Rampant in Tullylish

ACFL Div 2: Tullylish 2-8 Shamrocks 3-18

The limitations of a hard working Tullylish team were obvious as they were overpowered by a rampant Newry Shamrocks team at Parc Ns Og on Thursday night last.

Shamrocks were quick out of the traps racing into a 10-point lead in as many minutes helped by 2 goals one in the opening minute and another 5 minutes in. At this stage the game was virtually won but Tullylish battled hard throughout against what was a near impossible task. Tullylish responded to their early battering with a well-worked goal of their own from Chris McGovern after a high ball into the square. Shamrocks soon added 4 more points though and although Tullylish had their best period in the final 10 minutes scoring through John McAreavey, Gary chambers and Peter Quinn they missed several very scorable chances to leave the half time score Tullylish 1-3 Shamrocks 2-10

Tullylish made several positional changes at half time but this failed to improve the situation as after a good start when they managed 3 John McAreavey points Shamrocks regained the momentum and scored at regular intervals throughout the half Tullylish had given up hope long before the end but kept going with scores from John McAreavey and Gary Chambers. There was some consolation for Tullylish with virtually the last kick of the game when substitute Colin Thompson blasted to the net. Tullylish must now put this game behind them and continue the search for points that will pull them out of danger. These points will come if they show the commitment shown here.

Tullylish:
R McConville; S Greenaway (P Grew); M Feeney; B Priestly; G McEvoy; C McManus; R Barry; D Corbett; P Quinn 0-1; J McAreavey 0-5; M McEvoy (B Roberts); M McCartan; M Fitzpatrick (K McCartan); C McGovern 1-0 (C Thompson 1-0); G Chambers 0-2.
