Tullylish defeat Clann Na Banna
Clann Na Banna
1-8 Tullylish 2-9
Tullylish went into the derby game
knowing they needed a win to
kick-start their season and keep in
touch with their opponents who were
early season leaders. In the end
Tullylish easily accounted for their
opponents and the winning margin
should have been much grater.
Tullylish enjoyed the majority of
possession throughout and were in
control of the game for large
parts. Tullylish started well and
got an early score through Fintan
ODowd they were dominating midfield
and although one of the rare
Banbridge attacks produced a score
Tullylish were soon back in the lead
through a point from Mickey Feeney.
Tullylish were piling forward with
attack after attack but scores were
a little slow coming as had happened
the previous week chances went a
begging before scores from Barney
McCartan and a free from Gary
Chambers gave Tullylish a 3 point
lead with 10 minutes of the first
half remaining. Banbridge started
coming into the game and soon
registered two pointed frees after
some poor Tullylish defending. The
game could have been slipping away
from Tullylish at this stage with
Banbridge having the better of
exchanges although a pointed free
from Gary Chambers kept Tullylish in
front. Banbridge had their tails up
and added two points to level the
game but Tullylish then got the goal
their full forward line had been
threatening when Gary Chambers
received the ball on the sideline
and after a searing run through the
Banbridge defence was upended by the
Banbridge goalkeeper but the ball
broke to Robbie McCory who finished
the ball to an empty net. This was
the boost Tullylish needed just
before half time but they were hit
with a Banbridge point to leave the
score 0-6 to 1-5 at half time
Tullylish started the second half
how they had started the first
dominating the game for the first 15
minutes effectively putting the game
beyond Banbridge. Tullylish were
soon adding to their score with
points from Robie McCory and Barney
McCartan. Tullylish were looking
the only winners but once again some
poor passing and shooting were
proving their downfall. 10 minutes
intro the half Tullylish delivered
the hammer blow that secured the
game when the ball was played
through to substitute Chris McGovern
who soloed round the keeper and
finished to the net to the cheers of
the Tullylish supporters. Tullylish
now held a 7-point lead and seemed
to ease off for the remainder of the
game. Banbridge dominated
possession for the final 15 minutes
but never threatened to claw back
the defecate adding only 2 points
while on rare sorties down the field
Tullylish also added two points from
Chris McGovern and missed 2 goal
chances. Although Banbridge finally
broke through the Tullylish defence
when a high ball into the square was
punched to the net it was too little
too late and Tullylish ran out
comfortable winners.
Tullylish are improving game by game
but have a long way to go before
they will reach their full potential
but victory over their local rivals
provides them with the early season
boost they needed.
