Clonduff pick up South Down Club of the Year Award - 03/12/02

 

Clonduff was rewarded for their sporting, cultural and social activities at the South Down awards on Friday Night (29 November) when they picked up the "Club of the Year" award. So why did they win it? The Clonduff submission outlined the volume of activity provided the the season just finished. This list of activities was as follows:

  • AIB Down and Ulster Club of the Year
  • Clonduff fielded the following teams
    • Football - U10, U11, U12, U14, U16, Minor, Seniors, Seconds and Thirds
    • Hurling U12, U14 and Senior level
    • Junior Ladies
    • Six Camogie teams
    • Three Senior handball teams

·       Clonduff is also big into the Cultural side of activities (in accordance with Rule 4 (a) of the Association –fielded competitors in all eight sections of Scór Sinsear and Scór na nÓg. Currently Irish Dancing classes are running for both adults and juveniles; over 30 children are attending the newly resurrected Set Dancing classes and there is an adult Irish Language class run on a weekly basis.

  • The Club currently boasts of 40 qualified Football Coaches, 6 Hurling Coaches and 20 Camogie Coaches
  • U10s joint League winners and runners up in Mitchells Tournament
  • U11s finished second in their League section
  • U12s runners up in South Down Championship
  • U14s reached semi final of B Championship
  • At the time of going to press the Seconds have finished top of ACPRL
  • The Senior Footballers saved the best for last – despite languishing in the bottom four for most of the year, they pulled off a few supreme wins at the end of the season to avoid the relegation playoffs
  • The Senior Hurlers comprehensively won the Junior Championship and Betsy Gray Shield and at the time of printing are in  the Division 2 League Final
  • Paul Shields won the Down Novice Handball title

In South Down 5 Scór Sinsear and 3 Scór na Óg titles and County titles in Scór Sinsear Set Dancing and Scór na Óg Recitation
Clonduff’s development work during the current year included tarmacing the car park, renewing fencing separating car park from second field. Refurbishment of the second field is currently taking place.
