Rostrevor lead cut to three - 16/08/2002

Last weekend was a busy one for all clubs in the county with them playing two games in four days.

Division One league leaders Rostrevor suffered a double defeat, resulting in their lead at the top of the table being cut to three points. They were defeated by last years winners, Mayobridge who have two games in hand and Burran. Burren gaining revenge for their championship defeat by Rostrevor a few weeks ago

Burran lie in fourth place in the league along with Bryansford. The 'Ford showed excellent form in collecting full points at the expense of championship semi-finalists Liatroim and Loughisland. And things go from bad to worse for Warrenpoint who fell to Burren and remain at the bottom of the league table.

They also lost to fellow strugglers An Riocht who in turn lost to Clonduff who also drew with Castlewellan to lift themselves out of the bottom four relegation area. It was a bad weekend for Loughinisland who lost to Bryansford and Mayobridge to remain third from bottom.

They are now joined by Downpatrick whose season has changed around completely after their championship exit. Weakened by injuries they lost to Kilcoo in a convincing manner - 7-12 to 1-6 - which is the heaviest defeat they've suffered in living memory.

They now drop into the relegation area and must stop this slump. Kilcoo collected full points from their two games after their brilliant win over the holders, Mayobridge and are nicely placed in a mid-table position.

Castlewellan inflicted the second defeat of the week-end on Rostrevor to move into second place, but they could have made that their own but for dropping a point to Clonduff. In Division 2, leaders Saval retained their top position easily winning at Carryduff whose recent winning form seems to have deserted them. They also lost to fellow strugglers Kilclief and drop into the bottom four relegation area.

Kilclief lost to Drumaness, who in turn managed to salvage a point at Attical. Tullylish picked up two valuable points against Drumgath, but they are still third from bottom. Shamrocks remain in second spot, two points behind Saval, after defeating Ballyholland and then losing to Ballymartin who in turn lost to Annaclone who are now in third position.
