Mayobridge to Play All Ireland Champions Ballinderry in Ulster Championship - 30/09/02

Ballinderry Shamrocks defeated Loup 0 - 11 to 0 - 06 to retained their Derry Senior Football title in a one sided final in Celtic Park on Sunday 29th September. The defending Ulster and All-Ireland champions proved they are in a class of their own in the county of Derry. A crowd of about 4,000 turned out to see the destruction of Loup and could not but have been impressed by Ballinderry's performance.

Ballinderry will now face Down Champions Mayobridge in the Ulster club championship, the team they defeated to win Ulster last year. Mayobridge attended the Derry final and some of the Bridge players may have some restless nights ahead.

The match will no doubt be the tie of the Ulster Club Championship, with the winners unlikely to shed the favourite's tag for the rest of the provincial series. Ballinderry have beaten every side they've come across in Derry by over six points, including Bellaghy in the first round. With a well established pattern of play they don't bother that much about what the opposition are doing.
