2002 Senior Championship Semi Final
Rostrevor 1- 11 v Liatroim 1 - 11

League Leaders Rostrevor and Liatroim Fontenoys drew their Senior Championship Semi final on a scoreline of 1 - 11 each. This game which took place in Newcastle on Saturday, was a game of first class football with excellent scores coming from both sides.
Liatroim produced a brilliant final eight minutes of devastating football to come from six points down to level the game. Rostrevor entered this game as hot favorites and after fifteen minutes they justified this tag. Rostrevor opened the scoring with an Aidan Cole point. Liatroim responded through a Patrick Pearse McCartan point. Rostrveor then took control of the game scoring four unanswered points through corner forward Cole (one from a free).
Liatroim responded with two points from Patrick Pearse McCartan and Jerome McCrickard as they moved up a gear in the second quarter. Liatroim were in total control of the game at this stage and a brilliant move by some of the Liatroim players saw Patrick Pearse McCartan send the ball to the Rostrver net, which he followed up with another point. Rostrevor scored two points before half time to leave the scores tied at 1 – 04 to 0 – 07.
At the start of the second half both teams exchanged points before Conor Daly shot Rostrevor one point in front with ten minutes gone. With fifteen minutes gone Rostrevor shot to the net through substitute Martin Sherry. Rostrevor followed this up with two more points through Aidan Cole and Lloyd Parr to put six points between the sides with only 12 minutes left on the clock.
With eight minutes remaining Patrick Pearse McCartan pointed, which was followed a minute later by a Liam Doyle free. This was Doyles first score of the match. Aidan O’Prey pointed to leave three between the sides with four minutes remaining. At this stage it was all Liatroim and Patrick Pearse McCartan scored another point to take his tally for the evening to 1 – 05 but more importantly to leave two between the sides. Doyle scored his second of the evening with a close in free on the 60 minute mark. Two minutes into injury time Aidan O’Prey sent over the bar to level the game in a nailbiting finish.
The replay will take place next Saturday 31st August at 6.00 p.m. in Newcastle.
