2002 Senior Championship Semi Final Replay

Rostrevor scrape through this Semi Final replay on a scoreline of Rostrevor 1-5 to Liatroim's 1-4. This game never lived up to the quality of the first drawen match.
The score line does not give a true reflection of dominance that Rostrevor had in this game. Recording only a one point victory over Liatroim, the fact is that the losers were well and truly beaten despite this one point margin. A poor forward display by some of the Rostrevor players kept Liatroim in this match. Rostrevor will now go on and meet reining champions Mayobridge in the Down senior football championship, in two weeks time.
A goal by Aidan O¹Prey in second half injury time took the bad look of proceedings. Rostrevor who were forced to field without regular keeper, Ciaran Sloane, fullback, Finbar Caulfied, star midfielder Conor Daly and influential halfback, Martin Cole had registered twelve wides by half time.
If Rostrevor had taken their first half chances they would have had this game well and truly out of the reach of Liatroim, but instead they only managed to hold 0 - 02 to 0 - 01 lead after thirty minutes. Early second half points from Patrick McCartin and Colin McCrickard gave Liatroim a narrow lead before Rostrevor in an inspired six minute period wrapped up proceedings.
Points from Joseph Fegan and Aidan Cole (0-02) set them on their way before Lloyd Parr found the back of the Liatroim net to give Rostrevor a 1 - 05 to 0 - 03 lead. In an effort to salvage the game, the losers went in search of goals, but a string of brilliant saves by young substitute keeper, Dominic Fearon denied them a chance to get back into the game. Liatroim had the last word with a goal with practically the last kick of the game.
The final takes place in Newry in two weeks time.
