Complete
backing to Down Co. Board response - 07/11/02
The Club Down Association has, unsurprisingly
given its complete backing to the Down County Board in their
response to the possible incorporation of Newry's Pairc
Esler into a proposed multi-purpose stadium and conference
development.
A spokesman from the Mourne county fund-raising
group said last night: "We fully support the position of
the Down Co. Committee, made clear in the County Chairman's
recent statement that it is unequivocally committed to the
existing ongoing redevelopment project at Pairc Esler.
"This
current project has already made major progress and will
provide a 20,000 capacity stadium to modern standards in
the immediate future.
"Our role is to provide an effective
structure for funding of the final stages and to move the
project forward to completion.
"Club Down Association has
a very clear objective to finish the re-development of Pairc
Esler at the earliest possible date and will continue to
harness all its energies to make this project happen.''
