TP gets Services to the GAA Award - 15/11/02

 

At last nights Bass/Ulster GAA Writers Association's annual awards banquet Down GAA President TP Murphy was award the 2002 Bass/Ulster GAA Writers awards for Services to the GAA.

The Newry Shamrocks man has given more than six decades of service to the GAA as a player, administrator, and advisor. TP won an All Ireland Colleges Inter provincial title in 1942. Four decades later he was elected as a Trustee of the GAA, having already proven his worth as Secretary of Down from 1965 until 1988. He became President of the GAA in Down in 1990.

Congrulations to TP - a worthy award for a man who has given so much to the GAA in Down and to the GAA as a whole.

TP was unable to attend the banquet due to ill health, his award was picked up on his behave by new county manager Paddy O'Rourke. Over 600 people attended the 15th annual Bass/UGAAWA awards in which Armagh player Paul McGrane was named footballer of the year award.
