Rules 2003 - Coulter makes First eleven - 18/09/03
The Irish International Rules Team Manager, John O'Keefe,
has confirmed the names of eleven players who will definitely be part of the panel
to tour Australia next month for the two tests against Australia. Down Benny Coulter
has been included in that eleven. The players in question are:
Seamus
Moynihan (Kerry) Ciaran McManus (Offaly) Graham Canty (Cork) Anthony
Lynch (Cork) Trevor Giles (Meath) Brendan Coulter (Down) Brian
Mc Donald (Laois) Sean Martin Lockhart (Derry) Dessie Dolan (Westmeath)
Paddy Christie (Dublin) Tadhg Kennelly (Kerry & Sydney Swans)
There are two debutants in the eleven named. They are Down forward Brendan Coulter
and Laois star Brian "Beano" Mc Donald who join up with the Irish squad after
impressive summers for their respective counties.
The team will be captained
by Kerry's Seamus Moynihan as Ireland attempt to win back the series taken by
the Australian's in Ireland last year. There are still a number of players in
contention for the 16 remaining places on the tour and the final panel will be
confirmed on the week after the All Ireland football final.
The first
test will take place in the Subiaco Oval in Perth on Friday October 24th and the
43,000 capacity stadium is already sold out. The second test will be in the MCG
in Melbourne on Friday October 31st and another large attendance is expected in
a stadium which can accommodate 80,000 people. The Irish team is sponsored by
Coca Cola.
