O'Rourke has over 50 at training - 26/11/02

Paddy O'Rourke and his selectors have over 50 players in pre Christmas training at St Malachy's School Castlewellan on a Tuesday and Thursday night.

Ex International cyclist Barry Monaghan is helping with the fitness training and so far the response from all players invited has been very encouraging.

There is already an air of quiet determination which augers well for 2003. Down's first competitive engagement will be against Armagh at Newry on January 12th in the McKenna Cup.

Last week Down played a Challenge game against Mayobridge which Down won 2 - 10 to 0 - 13. The previous week Down defeated Rostrevor 1 - 12 to 0 - 11.

Meanwhile Down U21 manager Gerry Dougherty will be selecting his panel in the net few weeks. The starting date for the Hastings cup had not been decided, but it is likely not to start until mid January.
