Down Senior county goalkeeper to switch codes
- 01/08/2002
Paddy O'Rourke, former captain of the 1991 winning Down senior All Ireland team was appointed as the new Down senior football team manager on Thursday night.
O'Rourke takes over from the very successful Peter McGrath who stepped aside after Down made their exit from the All Ireland series at the hands of Longford. O'Rourke is no stranger to team management, being at present involved with Castleblayney Faughs, a side that he led to Monaghan championship victory last season.
The Down County Board were keen to appoint a native of the county to take charge of the side and as such resisted the lure of an outside on this occasion.
