O'Rourke wants the real Down to stand up and be counted - 25/07/03

2003 All-Ireland Qualifer
Down v Donegal
@ 4.15 p.m. Clones, Sat 26th July 2003

Down senior football manager Paddy O'Rourke has been forced into playing a tense waiting game prior to Down's All Ireland football qualifying game against Donegal tomorrow at Clones. The Burren club man is hoping that suspended midfielder Gregory McCartan will have his ban lifted by the Croke Park Management Committee tonight, thus allowing him to play against Donegal at Clones.

McCartans second appeal is in front of the Croke Park management at a special hearing tonight, and if his appeal is successful it may be just the medicine which Down have been looking for to get over their humiliating outing against Tyrone last Sunday. However due to Dan Gordon's imposed ban O'Rourke will be forced to amend his side but is obviously awaiting the outcome of the McCartan hearing.

However turns out for Down this time out O'Rourke will be asking for one thing - That the real Down stand up and be counted.
