hit Down take on Laois - 02/03/03
DOWN
v LAOIS
(Sunday 2nd March 2003 at 2.30 pm O'Moore Park, Portlaoise)
Down
take on Laois who have been creating some talk since Mick
O'Dwyer has taken over the side. Since the start of the
competition Laois have been a revelation but they have won
nothing yet, and Mick O'Dwyer will keep reminding them of
just that.
The Mourne county in their quest to stave
off relegation to Division 2 next season, have a huge task
on Sunday 2nd February when they meet league leaders, Laois
at the O'Moore Park grounds in Portlaoise.
O'Dwyer has been a long time admirer of
Down football, he has followed the career of Down's new
manager and former All Ireland winner Paddy O'Rourke abd
expects a lively fourth round contest. O'Dwyer is also aware
of Down's young talent and has stated "It's not that
long ago Down produced one of the best All-Ireland minor
winning teams that i've ever watched at Croke Park and many
of those players are now developing at senior level".
Down field a much changed side this weekend,
Brian Burns returns to action as does Ciaran Byrne, Michael
Higgins and Aidan O'Prey. Ronan Murtagh is out with a quad
injury, Daniel McCartan and Dan Gordan out with a toe and
hand injury while experienced midfielder Gregory McCartan
is still suspended.
Down, under Paddy O'Rourke, are slowly
moulding a new team but they will find the going tight against
a Laois side which is riding high.
