Management Committee want Larkin case concluded - 25/11/03

The GAA's high-powered Management Committee has given the go-ahead to the GAC to conclude its investigation into the saga involving Down's James McCartan and Kenny Larkin of Westmeath.

The investigation has been stalled ever since plain clothes gardai attempted to interview McCartan as he left a GAA hearing in Croke Park last September. The veteran Down forward had just been questioned by a GAC sub-committee in relation to an incident which left Larkin with a broken jaw. The controversy dates back to a challenge match played in Newcastle, Co. Dublin last May.

Now, following a request by the Down county board, the Management Committee have told the GAC that it should proceed with the case on the premise that any garda investigation was a totally seperate issue.

However, it's believed that Croke Park has already written to the gardai, outlining their dissatisfaction with the circumstances in which McCartan was approached.
