Change of venue for Mayo game - 07/02/03

Because of the recent adverse weather conditions, the Division 1B National Football League game between Down and Mayo has been switched from its original venue, of Newry to Newcaslte.

Down will be hoping to build on their great away success against Fermanagh at Brewster Park, Enniskillen last weekend and team-manager Paddy O'Rourke is not expected to make any changes to his line-up if all are declared fit. Mayo on the otherhand will be without the services of their Crossmolina players due to the club's forthcoming All-Ireland Club semi-final against Leinster title-holders, Dunshaughlin from Meath.

Among the key players out are Kieran McDonald, James Nallen and Michael Moyles who all figured in their opening win over Sligo at Castlebar last Sunday. However, on the plus side for John Maughan's Mayo side is that the versatile David Heaney returns and he will form a new midfield pairing with former Sligo and Tubbercurry club player, Rory Brennan. Andy Moran is selected at full-forward. The loss of some key players to the visitors line-up will greatly improve the chances Down getting their second successive league win.

Mayo - Peter Burke; Ken Mortimer, P. Kelly, R. Connolly; B. Burke, B. Prendergast, F. Costello; David Heaney, Rory Brennan; Sean Carolan, D. Sweeney, James Gill; C. Mortimer, A. Moran, M. Horan. .
