Down county Borad officials have lodged an appeal to the GAA's Management committee about the ban imposed on midfielder Gregory McCartan who was sent off in the drawn Ulster final against Tyrone two weeks ago.

In a last ditch attempt to enable Gregory McCartan to line out in Saturday's All-Ireland Qualifier against Donegal the Down county board have ask the GAA's Management Committee to overturn the one-month ban imposed on the midfielder. McCartan lost an appeal to the Games Administration Committee last week and missed last Sunday's Ulster Final replay hammering.

The midfielder's latest appeal is expected to be heard by Croke Park's Management Committee on Friday evening. Many people felt McCartan's dismissal in the Tyrone game had been extremely harsh. The player was dismissed for throwing the ball at the face of Tyrone forward Brian McGuigan. If the ban stands, McCartan will miss Saturday's Qualifier at Clones and Down's All-Ireland Quarter-Final the following weekend, should the Mourne County defeat Donegal.

Meanwhile, Ulster Council officials have said that they have no plans to investigate a coin-throwing incident in last Sunday's replay at Clones. The coin struck Down goalkeeper Michael McVeigh.
