Mulholland returns to county squad - 05/01/03

Ballyholland forward Shane Mulholland has returned to the Down set-up after talks with Paddy O'Rourke. When O'Rourke originally announced the Down panel before Christmas Mulholland failed to make the cut.

O'Rourke confirmed that the Ballyholland clubman had returned to training in recent weeks and is getting his fitness levels back. Mulholland who a few years ago was regarded as one of the brightest young rising stars in Gaelic football last appeared in the red and black jersey against Armagh at Casement Park in the All-Ireland qualifiers two summers ago. After that he wasn't in the plans of former Down boss, Peter McGrath after he could not attend pre-Christmas training last season because of heavy work commitments and soon found himself out in the cold.

Mulholland will be hoping that this latest return will kick-start his inter-county career and that he will get a run out in Down's two remaining league games after Sunday clash with Cavan in Newry - against Meath and Kildare.

Shane could provide the present Down side with some much-needed experience if he regains his fitness.
