Two Down Men make Irish News 2003 All Star Team - 11/09/03

Down's Mickey McVeigh and Benny Coulter have been named in the 2003 Irish News All Star Team. McVeigh has been named as goalkeeper and Benny Coulter selected at left half-forward.

Mickey Harte's Tyrone side fills seven of the 15 positions while Joe Kernan's Armagh team had to settle for five awards. Tyrone's contingent is led by captain Peter Canavan who gets the full-forward berth. Cormac McAnallen takes the full-back slot while Ryan McMenamin and Philip Jordan are picked for the left wing of the defence.

Sean Cavanagh joins Armagh's Paul McGrane in midfield while Canavan is selected in the attack alongside Brian Dooher and Owen Mulligan. Aidan O'Rourke, Kieran McGeeney, John McEntee, and Steven McDonnell make up the Armagh quintet.

Despite reaching the All-Ireland semi-final, Donegal's lone representative is corner-back Niall McCready.

The Irish News Fans' Ulster GAA All-Stars is entirely based on fan choice - readers select their 15 players of the Championship.

The winners will receive their awards at a gala dinner in the Armagh City Hotel on Thursday evening.

The Ulster Player of the Year will also be announced on the night.

The 2003 Ulster All Star team is:
Mickey McVeigh, Niall McCready, Cormac McAnallen, Ryan McMenamin, Aidan O'Rourke, Kieran McGeeney, Philip Jordan, Paul McGrane, Sean Cavanagh, Brian Dooher, John McEntee, Benny Coulter, Steven McDonnell, Peter Canavan, Owen Mulligan
