Draw for Down in first League Game - 02/02/2004
National
Football League - Division 2B
Round 1:
Down 3-11 Tipperary 3-11
@ Burren 2.00 pm, Sunday 1st Feb 2004
DOWN stuttered to an unimpressive draw
with Tipperary in this opening Division 2B game at Burren
yesterday.
The players rose above the poor conditions
to produce a brilliant second half as Tipp came from
eight points down to take a one point lead from a Declan
Browne goal a minute from time. But Liam Doyle rescued
Down with a pointed free two minutes into injury time.
Down will be wonder how they threw
away an eight point lead at the start of the second
half and also a six point lead midway through the half.
Trailing 1-6 to 0-4 at the break, Tipp's
fightback started six minutes into the second half.
A Browne free looked to have been fielded by Down keeper
Mickey McVeigh, but he dropped the ball allowing James
Williams to send it to the net.
