County Final preview Mayobridge v Bryansford - 27/09/03

Holders Mayobridge are on target for their third SFC title in a row. Mayobridge will take on Bryansford in what should be a very interesting county decider on Sunday week at the Newcastle venue.

The 'Bridge booked their place in the final with a good win over Castlewellan at Hilltown on Sunday, while their opponents in the final, Bryansford accounted for Rostrevor in Newry on Saturday evening last.

Mayobridge's ultimate aims this season are to win the county title, and then have a 'real go' at winning the provincial and All-Ireland club championships.

They are a very strong side with a number of talented players in their ranks including 21 year-old Benny Coulter who has blossomed into one of the best young players in the land at the present time - he has been pre-selected to travel to Australia in October for the International Rules series. However, they are far from a one-man side - especially with players such as Michael Walsh, Ronan Sexton, Robbie Coulter - brother of Benny - and of course the legendary Mickey Linden in their attack. With an attacking combination such as this they look like a side well capable of winning national honours if not this season, in the coming years.

Bryansford too, are a very young side well managed by Benny Corrigan. He has a very determined squad of players who are hoping to bring back the halcyon days of the 'seventies when the Saint Patrick's Park side were the kingpins of senior football in the Mourne county. They are also very ambitious and are going into the forthcoming with every hope of causing an upset. It all adds up to a very interesting encounter which is sure to attract the crowds to the Newcastle venue on Sunday week!
