Down men in Ulster squad as
McEniff names strong Railway Cup side - 13/11/03
Despite being without players of the calibre
of Peter Canavan, Kieran McGeeney and Dermot McCabe, Ulster
manager Brian McEniff has named a strong team for Saturday's
Railway Cup semi-final against holders Leinster in Enniskillen.
No fewer than 13 players who lined out
in the All-Ireland final have been included in McEniff's
squad, while Down have four named in the squad. The team
chosen has a youthful flavour to it, with the likes of Cormac
McAnallen, Kevin Cassidy, Sean Cavanagh, Benny Coulter and
Owen Mulligan being included.
All-Ireland semi-finalists Donegal have
three players in defence, namely Niall McCready, Kevin Cassidy
and Barry Monaghan. Down's experienced midfielder Greg McCartan
will partner Paul McGrane at midfield, while All-Ireland
champions Tyrone have the biggest representation in attack
with Brian Dooher and Sean Cavanagh named in the half forward
line and Owen Mulligan chosen at top of the left. Somewhat
surprisingly, All-Ireland quarter-finalists Fermanagh are
not represented on the starting fifteen, although both Tom
Brewster and Michael Lilly are on the bench.
