Down men help Ulster Club into San Francisco Final

GAA Senior Football Championship in San Francisco

The Ulster Club in San Francisco coached by former Down Minor All-Ireland winning manager Gerry Dougherty Castlewellan qualified for the senior football championship final on Saturday evening last.

In their semi-final game against Sons of Brou they had a resounding victory 1-14 to 0-6 after a very tough and hard hitting encounter. Down's Brendan McVeigh, Joe Doran and John Clarke were the backbone of a solid defence and Kevin Hughes(Tyrone) and Dan Gordan(Down) completely dominated the mid-field battle.

Up front Antrim's Kevin Brady and Derry's Mark O'Neill were both solid performers with Brady grabbing the only goal of the game and Down's John Clarke top scoring with 0-6 from the centre-half back spot.

Ulster Club now meet Shannon Rangers an Kerry dominated side in the championship final on Sunday next with the winners qualifying for the North American finals in Philadelphia in 2 weeks time.
