GAA Senior Football Championship in San Francisco
The Ulster Club in San
Francisco coached by former Down Minor All-Ireland winning manager Gerry
Dougherty Castlewellan qualified for the senior football championship final on
Saturday evening last.
In their semi-final game against Sons of Brou they had a resounding victory
1-14 to 0-6 after a very tough and hard hitting encounter. Down's Brendan
McVeigh, Joe Doran and John Clarke were the backbone of a solid defence and
Kevin Hughes(Tyrone) and Dan Gordan(Down) completely dominated the mid-field
battle.
Up front Antrim's Kevin Brady and Derry's Mark O'Neill were both solid
performers with Brady grabbing the only goal of the game and Down's John
Clarke top scoring with 0-6 from the centre-half back spot.
Ulster Club now meet Shannon Rangers an Kerry dominated side in the
championship final on Sunday next with the winners qualifying for the North
American finals in Philadelphia in 2 weeks time.
