The Ulster Club claimed their first senior title in comprehensive style on
Sunday evening when they defeated Shannon Rangers on a scoreline Ulster 0-24
Shannon Rangers 0-7. The Gerry Dougherty(Down) coached Ulster side played
some splendid football and now go forward to the North American finals in
Philidelphia next weekend. The first half was evenly contested until about
the 25th minute when the Ulster side began to get on top and at half-time
lead 0-9 to 0-3.
However playing against a stiff breeze in the second half
the Ulster men went into over-drive and completely demolished the Kerry
dominated Shannon Rangers side with Dan Gordan (Down) and Kevin
Hughes(Tyrone) completely dominating the mid-field battle.
In defence Down's Brendan McVeigh, Joe Doran and John
Clarke were magnificent, while the talent laden forward line which included
Mark O'Neill(Derry), Darren McCawley(Armagh) and Kevin Brady(Antrim) led the
Rangers defence a merry dance, with the final decision in no doubt long
before the long whistle.
