The second stage of the
hurling leagues commenced recently with Warrenpoint and Bredagh Under 14s moving
up to the Ards section. Warrenpoint have yet to play in Stage 2 but Bredagh have
so far played two games (against Ballycran and Ballygalget). Despite defeats in
both, the Belfast side have shown skill and ability which will stand them in
good stead when they represent Down in the National Feile in Cork next weekend.
In the mainland sections,
Liatroim and Castlewellan Under 14s are setting the pace. Liatroim had opening
wins over Ballyvarley and Mourne while Castlewellan defeated Shamrocks and
Carryduff. In this latter game, the Carryduff boys gave a spirited performance
before going under on a 5-3 to 2-6 scoreline. Carryduff’s goals came from Conor
Mc Cormack and Robert Mc Laughlin while Gary Morris and Darragh Goodwin also
contributed to the visitors’ scoreline. For Castlewellan, Aidan Keown, Jason
Croskery and David Mc Comb gave excellent displays. In this week’s games,
Liatroim and Castlewellan meet with Liatroim favourites to take both points.
Shamrocks entertain Carryduff while Ballyvarley will be opening to build on last
week’s win over Newry when they travel to play Mourne.
The Under 16 Leagues resume
on Friday evening. |
