Youth Hurling Championship Update
Recent Championship matches have narrowed the list of
teams who can win the various underage hurling competitions in Down.
At U-12 level, the ‘A’ championship will be decided on
Friday evening when Ballycran take on Portaferry at Ballygalget. In the ‘B’
competition, the semi final line-ups have been decided. Ballyvarley won their
replayed quarterfinal and so meet Bredagh in the semis. In the other semi
final, Clonduff will play Liatroim. The ‘B’ Shield competition will see
winners of a Carryduff – Warrenpoint semi final meet Ballela.
The under 14 ‘A’ finalists have also been decided with
Ballycran and Ballygalget due to meet in a couple of weeks time. In the ‘B’
grade, the finals are scheduled for Saturday next with Bredagh meeting
Liatroim while Warrenpoint and Carryduff compete for the Shield.
The Under 16 Championship is also drawing to a close. The
‘A’ Championship will see Ballycran and Down Academy meeting in one semi while
the other is an All Ards clash between Ballygalget and Portaferry. The
mainland ‘B’ competition is also now at the semi final stage. Following their
win over Bredagh, Warrenpoint have progressed to the final where they await
the winners of Kilclief and Liatroim who respectively overcame Castlewellan
and Ballela in the previous round. The new Shield format has seen these two
losing sides reach the Shield semi finals where Castlewellan are pitted
against Ballyvarley while Ballela travel to Clonduff in the other semi. Both
Under 16 Shield semis are scheduled to be played this weekend.
