Down football captain Benny
Coulter has been given a three year private
sponsorship deal which allows him to quit his day
job and work full time on promoting GAA in the Newry
area.
Successful Down businessman Gerard O’Hare is
personally funding Coulter’s three year contract,
which is possible after the player passed a set of
Ulster Council exams which qualify him to coach
gaelic games.
"Benny is an employee of the Down Board. He is
working in a coaching capacity,” explained a Down
county board spokesman. “The only difference between
his position and that of a full-time coach employed
by the Ulster Council is that the funding for him
has been sourced from the private sector. From every
perspective the deal is one that suits all the
parties. Benny Coulter is a massive name in Gaelic
football.”
