Camogs: Clare V Down Sunday 23rd April

Clare V Down Sunday 23rd April - Whitegate Clare - An outstanding second-half performance from the Down Camogs wasn't enough to see them through to the League Final.  Clare started the scoring with a Laura Linnane point in 35 seconds followed by 3 more before Finnoula Carr got Down on the scoresheet with a point.  Clare dominated this half although many of their scores came from free's as the Limerick Ref was a bit whistle happy and didn't really let the game flow.  Karen Gribben got a point followed by a goal from Kelly O'Higgins to leave the score Clare 1-10 Down 1-2 at the break.  Clare were the quicker to start the second half before Down really woke up and at one point were 13 points behind when they started to work as a team and played execellant camogie.  With 5 mins remaining Down were 2 points down and just couldn't get the goal they deserved. Second half scorers Catriona McCrickard 2pts Finnoula Carr 1pt Karen Gribben 1pt Mairin McAleenan 2pts Angeline Fearon who came on as blood sub 1goal & Catherine McGourty 1 goal. Down must take note from the second half performance and look to the championship - Group D - 21st May London v Down 25th June Westmeath v Down and 9th July Down v Clare with the top 2 teams progressing to the 1/4 finals.
