All-Ireland Junior Championship
1/4 Final: DERRY 0-10 DOWN 0-9
Having played their best camogie
of the season and still be on the
losing side was hard to take for
the Down Camogs and their
managment team on Sunday in
Slaughtneill. Down seeked revenge
for the defeat at the hands of
Derry in the Ulster Championship a
few weeks ago. They did exactly as
instructed and played hard and
fast and were the better team.
Had it not have been for a few
questionable refeering decision's
in particular when Finnoula Carr
on cleaning a ball connected with
Orla Maginn and a free on the 21
was awarded to Derry. At the break
Down lead by by point. On the
restart Derry equalised and added
2 more before Down's free taking
ace Catherine McGourty put Down
ahead with 3 points.
Another questionable decision was
the dismissal of Derry's Clare
Doherty but Derry rose to this and
got 2 more but Down did miss a few
scorable frees before the end.
Down's Finnoula Carr was
outstanding aided by Karen
McMullan Orla Maginn & Jenny
Braniff.
