Castlewellan, Wednesday 15 March:
The Down GAA Senior Club Football Championship was
launched in style tonight when POWERADE, one of the
world’s largest sports drinks, announced its
sponsorship of the competition.

Holding on to the silverware, Benny
Coulter of Mayobridge GAC is watched by Mickey
McVeigh of Castlewellan, Aidan Brannigan of Kilcoo
and Liam Doyle of Liatroim as Jerry Quinn, Chairman
of Down GAA County Board is joined by Powerade's
Event & Sponsorship Manager, Jonathan Gates and
Chris Mills,

Speaking at the first round draw, Down GAA County
Chairman Jerry Quinn welcomed Powerade’s
involvement; “We are delighted to be able to
announce Powerade’s sponsorship of the 2006 Senior
Club Football Championship. Powerade is a globally
recognised and respected brand with a wealth of
knowledge and expertise at the highest level. Their
support will bring a new dimension to the Club
Championship in the county and one which can only
enhance the competition, in what looks set to be one
of the most keenly contested competitions for
years.”
Jonathan Gates, Events and Sponsorship Manager for
Powerade added: “Powerade is a big supporter of GAA
in Ireland. We have been working with County
Boards’ throughout Ireland for a number of years and
have always wanted to develop this relationship in
Ulster but it was important to ensure that we picked
the right event. As such we are delighted to be
able to make today’s announcement. The Down Senior
Club Football Championship is amongst the most
competitive in Ireland and I’m sure this year will
be no different. Powerade is delighted to be
associated with this prestigious event. I am really
looking forward to the first round matches and I
would like to take this opportunity to wish all the
teams taking part every success for this year’s
competition.”
The first round of the Powerade Senior Club Football
Championship will take place between 10th and 15th

Castlewellan will play Warrenpoint,
Clonduff will play Annaclone, Kilcoo will play
Downpatrick RGU, Mayobridge will play Longstone,
Ballyholland will play Loughinisland, Bryansford
will play An Riocht, Newry Shamrocks will play
Liatroim and Rostrevor will play Burren, between
August 10th and 15th.
