DOWN started their All_Ireland campaign with a win in Ruislip on Sunday. As has been the story so far this season Down only started to play in the 2nd half and the conditions were wet & windy. Karen Gribben conitnued her scoring cmpaign with a goal in the 1st min. But is was another 13mins before Mairin McAleenan got Down's 2nd score with a pointed 45. Catherine McGourty goaled on 22mins before Sinead McMahon got London's only score of the half from a free before Karen Gribben pointed to leave the score 0-1 to 2-3. On the restart Jenny Braniff pointed before Sinead McMahon goaled for London and it looked like game on. McAleenan and Anne Marie O'Dwyer exchanged points before Down settled and took control of the game. Teenager Kelly O'Higgins ran the London defence ragged and even cousin Eimear playing for London had no answer for her. Down then picked their scores off with ease - K O'Higgins 1goal Catherine McGourty 1 goal 2pts Karen Gribben 2pts Anne Morgan Catriona McCrickard & Cathy Mullholland 1pt each. Down had travelled with a skelton panel due to exam committments but should be happy enough with the result before their Ulster Final with Derry in 2 weeks time.
