Presentation to Scór na nÓg Champion

A very enjoyable little function was held on Wednesday night past in Mayobridge GAA Centre to pay tribute to Claire Rooney, winner of the Recitation competition at the All-Ireland Scór na nÓg finals in Athlone in February last.

Singers, musicians and dancers, along with guests from several County Down GAA clubs and from Carrickcruppen GAA in County Armagh gathered for a night of entertainment put on by the guests themselves, all of whom had competed in Scór at various levels.

Special mention was made of the parents of the area who encourage their children to take part in music, song, drama and the cultural arts and how the benefits from that can last the children all their lives.

Five All-Ireland Scór titles had come to the Mayobridge club, and to County Down in just eight years, but without that parental support it just wouldn’t have happened.

Brian Kennedy, chairman of the County Down Scór committee congratulated Claire on her victory and also thanked the Mayobridge club members who work for Scór in the County, he also invited all clubs in the county to the special Scór Celebration Night in Clonduff on this Friday night 20th and reminded them of the Scór Convention in Castlewellan on 24th April.

Sean Rooney, representing the club chairman P.J. Magee who had to attend a prior arranged meeting in Armagh, presented Claire with a memento to remind her of her win; Claire in reply, thanked the Mayobridge club members for all their support over the years and also all those who came along on the night to celebrate her success.
