The Ballygalget was runner-up in
the Schools Camogie Skills with the
winner Rhea Smyth from St Mary’s PS
Kircubbin giving an outstanding display
to lift the title. Shauna O’Neill,
,Portaferry PS and Nicola O’Gorman of Ballyholland
PS were in third and fourth places
respectively
The Schools’ Hurling final between
St Malachy’s Castlewellan and
Ballyholland PS was a close game with
the Castlewellan team managing to get
the all important scores to lift their
first school’s title in the B Section.

Hurling Skillstar Winner Glenn Atchison
of Ballycran GAC will represent Down at
the National Feile in Kilkenny in June.
He also won the Poc Fada on Saturday
afternoon beating Ryan Morgan of
Castlewellan GAC with a brilliant
display of long stricking.
Camogie Skillstar winner was Paula
Hughes, Ballycran with Michaela Doran,
Ballygalget in second place.

Ballycran Feile Camogie Champions
The camogie final was
an easy victory for last year’s Feile
Champions, Ballycran who were always in
command and ran out worthy winners with
a big score. Best for the winners were
Laura Hughes, Dannielle Toner,
Bernadette Clancy and Ciara Woods who
dominated the scoring with Claire Keith
a confident keeper and full back Nicola
Torney outstanding in defence.
Portaferry’s
goalkeeper Ashlene Curran did really
well with Sarah McDevitt Niamh Mallon
Megan Mullan and Leannda Curran playing
gallantly till the final whistle
At The Feile
Parade on Saturday all 22 teams from the
Hurling, Camogie and Handball clubs
paraded from the High School Park to St
Malachy’s Club led by the colour party
and the Annsborough Pipe Band, then a
local group of Guides/Briginis followed
with the teams in their club colours and
with their banners making a colourful
spectacle in the bright sunshine.

This division 2 final had
everything and was closely contested
with Carryduff coming from behind
trailing at the interval with the scores
Carryduff 0-1 Clonduff 1-2.
Shay Murnin
opened the scoring with a clonduff point
from play and Barry O Hagan fired in a
goal to increase the lead.
Carryduff
replied with a Charles McAllister point
after a good run by Daniel McGlinchy.
A
point from Niall McPoland left clonduff
4 points ahead at the break.

Carryduff Div2 Beaten Finalists
Carryduff were quicker to score and
Gareth Lynch scored a classy goal to
leave a point separating the sides.
Niall McPolin replied with a brilliant
solo effort. Then Carryduff took the
lead when a Danny McGlinchy lob into the
square was mishandled by the keeper and
ended in the net to put them ahead. Ryan
Brannigan broke from defence deep into
injury time and in the closing minutes
Barry O’ Hagan crashed an the ball to
the back of the net to seal victory.It
was a cruel wat to lose for the Crryduff
lads but they played their part in a
well contested Final with Clonduff
worthy champions to travel to the
National Feile Finals in Kilkenny in
June.

Conor Grant was outstanding for Clonduff
at full back with Niall McPoland (0-2),
Barry O Hagan (2-0) and Shay Murnin
(0-1) getting the vital scores.
Carryduff had star players in captain
Danny McGlinchy (1-0) Gareth Lynch (1-0)
Conor McCormack (0-1), Charles
McAllister (0-1) while Eoin Conway ,
James Laverty and Matthew Mooney playing
solidly throughout.
After the final whistle Michael Keenan,
Down Hurling Chairman presented the
trophies to both teams.

Ballycran missed some early scoring
chances before Conor Savage pointed from
play to give Portaferry the lead.Aidan
O’ Neill and Sean Mageean had points
before Shay McMullan scored a cracking
goal to widen the gap. Ballycran’s
Michael McCullough pushed upfield and
pointed with star midfielder Barry
Atcheson adding a similar score.
In
the second half Brett Nicholson opened
with a Ballycran point and Shay McMullan
replied with a goal. Matthew Conlon
pointed a 65 m free and Luke Conlon and
Petrer Mason added 2 pointed frees to
leave Portaferry ahead 2-6 to 0-4 at the
final whistle.
Portaferry star players were goalkeeper
Sean Savage, Conor o’Neill, Danny
Gilmore and Eoghan Dumigan in defence
with Shay Mc Mullan, Luke Conlon, Sean
Mageean Peter Mason and Matthew Conlon
very strong.
Ballycran’s best players were Glenn
Atcheson, Myles Nicholason, Mark Egan,
Brett Nicholson and Barry Atcheson at
midfield.
The Portaferry team will travel to the
National Feile Finals In Kilkenny in
June as the Div 1 Champions representing
Down
