The Ulster Minor
League Division 2 continued with a 5-14
to 0-6 victory for the Down Minors over
Antrim in Derryleckagh. Fresh from
their impressive display against
Fermanagh in the previous round of
matches Down started brightly. They
opened the scoring and never looked back
from there. Aided by the good condition
of the pitch. the first half was a tight
skillful affair. Down led at the break
1-7 to 0-4 through the play of
midfielders McAleenan and Maxwell and
finishing of Doherty at full forward.
Antrim failed to put
up much resistance in the second half.
Playing against the wind they managed
only 2 points. Down seized the
advantage and laid siege to the
opposition goal mouth and were unlucky
not to add to their second half tally of
4 goals and 7 points. Down’s displays
in this league have been consistently
good. They have shown great skill and
dedication so far. Their campaign
continues in a fortnight’s time when
they play their final game way to a very
good Donegal.
